Ade Akure, AkureThe Ondo State governor’s office at Alagbaka in Akure was today afternoon gutted by fire.
The incident occurred few minutes after the arrival of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Modu Sherif, on a courtesy visit to the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
The extent of damage of the fire, which affected the Ante-Room of the Executive Chamber of the office,
could not be ascertained as of press time.
The incident caused confusion at the governor’s office as workers at the section of Executive Chambers scampered for safety.
As a result of the fire, the meeting between the governor and his visitor was quickly shifted to the government house, which is about two kilometres from the governor’s office.
Reacting to the in incident, the state’s commissioner for information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said the incident occurred as a result of a power surge at the affected section of the office.
He commended the men of the state fire service for their quick intervention, explaining that they arrived at the scene few minutes after a distress call was put across to them.
“We cannot assess the extent of damage caused by the fire for now but all we can say now is that fire happened as a result of power surge and it only affected the Ante Room of the Executive Chamber,” he said.
