Some governors have enjoined Christian faithful to inculcate the virtues of peace, love, sacrifice and forgiveness during the Easter celebrations.
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Friday called on the people of the state to use the Easter period to pray for peace and sustainable development.
Wike, who made the call in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, advised Christians to rededicate themselves to sacrificial living as exemplified by Jesus Christ for the growth of the state.

He assured that his administration would continue to work towards the promotion of security across the state in conjunction with security agencies.
Also, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, advised Nigerians against using their positions to oppress others, but to learn from Jesus Christ, who used his power and position to serve and comfort others.
In his Easter message in Ado Ekiti on Friday, the governor also charged Nigerians to stand for the truth at all times and be ready to defend it.
According to a press statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, the governor said, “It was not that the Lord Jesus lacked the power to overcome those who went to arrest him, but in accordance with his divine mission, he submitted himself to God’s will. He died for us to have salvation.
“Those in positions of authority, who derive pleasure in intimidating, harassing and embarrassing others with the power the law of the land has vested in them should realise that there is a day of reckoning.
“We must also stand for the truth because the Lord Jesus whose death and resurrection we are celebrating at this period is the truth.”
In his Easter message, Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, felicitated with the people, particularly Christians, on the occasion of this year’s Easter, a period he said was meant for sacrifice and forgiveness as exemplified by the life and times of Jesus Christ.
Ajimobi said, “We can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs. This is the time for us to start breaking the eggs. Without pains, there will be no gains. The Bible even supports this by saying that ‘in all labour, there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.’”
Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, also enjoined Christian faithful to inculcate the virtues of peace, love, sacrifice and forgiveness, which he noted were the cardinal planks of Easter.
Ayade, in his Easter message, issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, said, “As we join our Christian brothers and sisters all over the world to celebrate this special occasion of Easter, I enjoin residents of Cross River and all Nigerians, to imbibe the core values of sacrifice, love, sharing and forgiveness of sins, which our Saviour preached while on earth.
“In line with what Christ preached, and which he demonstrated by laying down his life for us, we should, therefore, embrace peace with all men and continue to sustain it in the years to come.”
Former Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, also called on the people of the state to unite and contribute to the development of the state at a time when Nigeria was facing economic downturn.
