Before
his emergence on Friday, as the new FIFA President, Switzerland’s Gianni
Infantino had sought the support of 209 Member Football Associations (FAs),
making up FIFA, as well as ex-internationals and football legends. New FIFA

Infantino, he had in the run-up to the election visited 70 countries and over
150 FAs. Vanguard captures some football legends who openly threw their weights
behind Infantino, before the mind-pulsating election which ran into a 2nd
ballot today. Among the many ex-football internationals who took to their
social media accounts to express their support for Infantino, were
ex-Portuguese international, Luís Figo; ex-Italian internationals, Gianluigi
Buffon and Gennaro Gattuso; ex-Brazilian internationals, Roberto Carlos and
Marcos Evangelista de Morais, known as Cafu, ex-Cameroonian international,
Samuel Eto’o, and Tobagonian former football player, Dwight Yorke; See their
social media posts on Twitter and Facebook supporting Infantino: Samuel Eto’o
wrote on his facebook page: I wish Gianni to win the FIFA election. I know that
he has the interests of football at heart and that his experience, his
determination and his passion for sports can allow make a real difference for
football in Africa and throughout the world.
