trouble for Senate President Bukola Saraki is on the way with the resolve of
the Federal Government to press forgery charges against him and his deputy,
Senator Ike Ekweremadu. The suit against the two presiding officers of the

Abuja—Former President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, defended his
government’s record on fighting corruption and denied his successor’s
assertion that the country’s Treasury was left empty when he handed over
power last year. Jonathan, 58, was succeeded in May 2015 by President
Muhammadu Buhari, who accused the previous administration of looting
billions of dollars and leaving the country’s finances “virtually

Ivory Coast’s former first lady,
Simone Gbagbo, went on trial on Tuesday, accused of crimes against
humanity and war crimes for her alleged role in a civil war that
followed a 2010 presidential election and killed around 3,000 people.
The trial, the West African nation’s first for crimes against
humanity, is being held in a domestic court after the government
rejected her extradition to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in
The Hague, Reuters reported.
